Overview
PRINCE2 Project Board training is without doubt the most important in our PRINCE portfolio. So many organisations think that adopting PRINCE in the organisation means training their Project Managers. In reality, the Project Board is of vital importance in the successful implementation of PRINCE. But we must give a warning that these courses are quite hard hitting and we don't even try to 'pull our punches'. Project Board members must face up to their responsibilities and the course faces delegates with the sort of management decisions that they will need to make on their projects.
The analogy we draw on the course is with senior managers in a department in an organisation. Those managers are responsible for the department. In the same way, the Project Board members must 'own' the project and take their responsibilities and decision making very seriously.
But we also show the power of PRINCE and how it is a genuine help in the project if understood properly and then used intelligently. So many organisations have misunderstood PRINCE and think it is just some system of project documentation and proceed to use it that way. A senior manager on an Inspirandum PRINCE Project Board course in a financial organisation commented afterwards ...
"significantly better than the one I attended at [major PRINCE training company named] which left me wondering what it was all about and thinking it was all about the paperwork."
We show you the business justification for PRINCE and the very real power in this method. We offer two variants of this important course.
- A one day course for Project Board members who are already familiar with product and activity project planning techniques.
- A two day course for Project Board members who are not familiar with project planning techniques. This adds sessions on planning so that Project Board members will understand the techniques and be able to have a meaningful discussion with Project Managers, and approve plans.
Both the 1 day and 2 day events are held ‘in-company’ so that we can focus on your particular environment and your current projects. As with all our courses, it is led by an experienced PRINCE practitioner not someone who is only a trainer, so you get the benefit of PRINCE consultancy advice during the day(s) as well as coverage of the method.
Who should attend this course?
Any manager who already has a role on the Project Board for a PRINCE2 project, or who expects to take a role. No previous knowledge of PRINCE is assumed - even for those already on boards!
Duration
The 1 day version of this course works through the timescale of a PRINCE project after first explaining the basics of the method. It focuses on key points of involvement, responsibilities and Project Board decision making.
The 2 day version covers the same ground, but adds sessions on product and activity planning for board members who are not familiar with these techniques. If board members are to have a meaningful dialogue with Project Managers and are to understand the plans they are agreeing to then they must be familiar with these approaches.
